There are those tailored for specific specs and others that are just amazing to look at, regardless of spells used. Take a moment to consider some of the best sets from the past when creating a new look and personality for mages. Updated August 13, by Payton Lott : Instead of relying on complete sets, players should get creative and try to mix and match armor pieces in-game. There are so many options that it can be difficult to find the right pieces to complete a set.
This updated list includes unique hybrid sets that look amazing in action. They are all retro sets that will help players stand out from the crowd. Additionally, information about where and how to get each of these pieces is included.
Transmogrification is all about creating a distinctive character, and these sets will provide gamers with a few options. Anyone that wants to actually look like an early 20th-century magician has to try out this mage transmog set.
From the costume with the top hat to the wand and a bag of tricks, this combination of pieces is absolutely hilarious. It definitely suits a human or gnome best. See below for a complete list of the items that make this look so ridiculous:. Anyone that has these pieces sitting around can create an awesome build with them.
This blue set looks great with a basic Blue Linen Vest, but any blue-colored chest piece will look good. Below are some suggestions to finish the mage transmog set :. Blue Frostwind Feathers look incredible with the purple feathery Shadowmoon Robes.
Likewise, Sadana's Grisly Visage is a purple skull weapon with blue eyes, which ties the look together perfectly. This Gladiator's Silk transmog should be easy to pick up.
The head and shoulder pieces can be tailored and are likely in the auction house on most servers. Gamers can choose to go with any chest piece, but red or orange fit the look best.
See below for some good options to complete the class. The Arcanoshatter set looks particularly good on night elves and blood elves because of how big the pieces are. The Arcanoshatter Hood and Mantle in particular take up a lot of space on the character model. Both of the pieces are Blackrock Foundry drops , with the hood dropping from Kromog and the Mantle dropping from Operator Thogar. For the rest of the transmog set, players should consider the combination of black and burnt orange gear to match the Arcanoshatter aesthetic.
Venthyr mages live to be feared. Unfortunately, the Venthyr aesthetic doesn't always mesh well with a mage. Luckily, the Burnished recolor of the Soulbreaker set has blue and violet hues. The set is currently unobtainable but all pieces should be available from Venthyr quartermasters in Sinfall and more than likely require specific renown ranks for purchase as other Covenant sets do.
This transmog includes the full Soulbreaker Burnished set, from helm to slippers. A lot of speculation lies within the nature of Ashbringer's holy crystal. Some theorize that the crystal may have been a naaru, or an ancient being of pure energy. Despite its appearance as an enlarged longsword with a circular crystal, Ashbringer possesses incredible power.
After all, it's Ashbringer that destroys Frostmourne and kills Arthas. According to Darion, if his idea comes to fruition, a hypothetical blade borne of evil should have enough power to fight Arthas and Frostmourne. In turn, the quest to create Shadowmourne was born. Unfortunately, the quest to create such a powerful artifact in such a quick fashion wasn't easy. To create Shadowmourne , one must first possess the remains of Light's Vengeance, the holy hammer Arthas discarded prior to wielding Frostmourne.
Lastly, the blade needs to absorb souls of the Scourge's most powerful allies and even fragments of the Frozen Throne. As a result, Shadowmourne also possesses the ability to drain life energy that can be used to unleash powerful magical attacks. Despite its name, the Orcs created Doomhammer as an instrument for good. In fact, its name represents the wielder's capacity to provide doom to the enemy, especially when the wielder's honor is challenged.
In turn, Doomhammer represents the redemption of the Orcish race from their fall to the Burning Legion. As a weapon forged in the Draenor's elemental lava, Doomhammer has a unique affinity to the elements.
Its wielder, when capable of communicating with the elements, can empower Doomhammer with their magic. Moreover, despite the hammer replacing its hilts, the hammerhead never got replaced.
Of all of Azeroth's threats, it's Sargeras that poses the most danger. As a Titan, Sargeras wanted to obliterate all life to avoid the risk of corruption.
However, in his turn to darkness, Sargeras the Dark Titan wanted to eliminate Azeroth or control it, as prophecy states that Azeroth's awakened titan-soul may be more powerful than Sargeras. In turn, Sargeras desperately tried to invade Azeroth, but his entire essence cannot be transported into the material plane.
As such, Sargeras had his eredar forge a tool that will enable him to travel between worlds — which became the Jeweled Scepter of Sargeras. Unlike other weapons, the primary focus of the Scepter remains as a gateway between worlds. The GM made a mistake, and bestowed a one-of-a-kind item to a random Azerothian. The mount wasn't particularly distinct—just a palette swap from the other options—and perhaps that's why Blizzard authorities made the charitable decision to leave the mount on Neshe's account, which quickly made him something of a folk hero in-game.
Much later, during the Warlords of Draenor cycle, Neshe was caught selling his Warcraft account online at an exorbitant price to try and cash in one the one-of-a-kind asset he'd been sitting on for years.
Blizzard caught him, banned him, and deleted the mount from his inventory, which has permanently ensured that the Fluorescent Green Mechanostrider will be one of the rarest items in videogame history. At least until another GM goofs up again, I guess. Blizzard has always been a big fan of baking holiday-specific events into Azeroth, and today the most notorious example might be the Valentine's Day-adjacent "Love is in the Air" soiree that rains lust and jealousy over the capital cities.
Mount collectors obsess over this event because it's your only chance to unearth a one-of-a-kind mount called the Big Love Rocket—seriously, that's the name. The only issue is that the mount can only be looted exactly once per day, and only during the two weeks that Love is in the Air lasts.
This might be my favorite item on this list because it represents Blizzard's Warcraft game design and social engineering at its boldest. Way back in the mists of time, long before there was a giant sword sticking out of Silithus, Blizzard released a raid called Ahn'Qiraj. It represented the next tier of dungeoneering after Blackwing Lair, and it required one player on the realm to complete this ridiculous, globe-trotting quest chain complete with its own custom boss encounters to craft a mallet that would formally open its doors.
Your reward for completing the gauntlet and propelling your comrades into the next phase of raid content? An obsidian bug mount exclusive to your character only. I hope they never do. Another supremely rare mount, but also one that is totally achievable in-game, right now.
