Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Fred Shelley. In reply to Sharief K's post on September 28, I had tried the first method numerous times with no success. A lot of time was spent searching for an answer to the problem, just like all those other searchers. I followed a suggestion to make all the Windows Sub dir files Hidden and then unHidden, no success. It found and downloaded and installed 35 files. Not impressed at the amount of my life I had to use up to solve this problem.

But the computer belongs to a dear family friend who does not want to change at their time of life. In reply to Fred Shelley's post on January 14, I have tried everything on this page and all others I could find. After the third attempt I get an error FD. There is very little wrong with Vista as long as it is updated to SP2. In actuality, it is very similar to Windows 7.

You may be able to update it to Vista 64 or Win7 But, before you do any of that, first check your hard drive. A laptop that came with Vista is pretty old for a laptop and the hard drive may not have a lot longer to live. So, if you are going to upgrade, chances are very good that it would be an excellent investment to include a new hard drive with it. In fact, if you use a rpm drive instead of the one that it has in it, you will reap a nice performance reward.

Be warned.
