Windows firewall cannot change settings

However after a recent update all of the settings for windows firewall are greyed out and a banner is shown on top of the page that says 'Some of these settings are managed by your administrator'. As I said the server is not on a domain and has no other administrators, that said it does connect to the internet through a university network using a VPN.

I can still edit firewall settings but only by opening the Group Policy Editor as an administrator or going through the server manager. I would be happy enough with this but the users would like to be able to change this and I cannot give them a straight answer as to why the settings are not available anymore.

If anyone understands this issue and can at least provide some insight I would appreciate it. I think we could try to change group policy about firewall setting to default or non configure even as you said it is local group policy, but it will also make affection on local administrator on this system. Also try to uninstall those 3 installed update packages if the issue occur after update system. Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help. I suppose this makes sense as the only way we can now change firewall settings is by opening gpedit and changing the values. The customer wants to allow changing firewall settings via the default GUI in the control panel, rather than having to go into the Group Policy Editor, which they used to be able to do.

Currently a banner appears that reads 'Some settings are managed by your administrator' and settings are greyed out. As for the updates it is difficult to tell because this is a client computer which doesn't update on a regular schedule, however I believe the issue began after the following updates were installed on January 23rd:.

After that is done you cannot edit them through the control panel until all firewall-related group policy settings are returned to 'Not Configured'.
